Heat and Control Website Design

Heat and Control is a global leader in designing and manufacturing food processing equipment. With a long heritage of innovation and precision engineering, the company has a vast line of products and capabilities. But its website was outdated and hard to navigate. Heat and Control came to Clear Digital to build a new site from the ground up that would showcase their industry-leading products and solutions, while making it easy and intuitive for visitors to find exactly what they’re looking for.

Why Clear Digital?

As a market leader in the industry, Heat and Control’s website now has the ability to grow with the company and its ever-increasing capability. We wanted our technology expertise on the manufacturing floor to match our technology online and provide helpful information about the comprehensive solutions we provide.

A Brand-New Experience

The Heat and Control website contains a ton of information. Our biggest challenge was figuring out how to create a user flow that’s both logical and intuitive, comprehensive and easy to understand. We replaced dated pop-ups and drop-downs with simple menus featuring clean imagery, organized in a way that feels logical. Visitors can enter from any angle and find exactly what they’re looking for quickly and easily—whether it’s an end product, a step in the production process, or a type of product or process. We also included a handy directory by brand and name. Plus, the homepage tells new visitors everything they need to know about Heat and Control without digging deeper.

Responsive and Regional

As the company’s main sales tool, Heat and Control’s website needs to work on any device. And with customers all over the world, it also needs to customize what users see by region—because not all products are available everywhere. The new website optimizes for any screen and tailors to the visitor’s location, helping to engage customers better wherever they are in the world.

Messaging Reimagined

Heat and Control is a food-processing pioneer, but their messaging was a bit bland. We wanted to help them own their place in the market by refining the way they talk about their products. We held workshops to build a stronger, more ownable messaging platform and brand voice. Not only did this help with the website rebuild, the company can use it in the future to craft new content and marketing materials that are consistently on brand.

Deep Search with Drupal

With so many products and solutions, being able to find what you’re looking for fast is key to usability. We added a comprehensive search function powered by Drupal with content tagged to tie it to multiple products, models, or categories as needed. Visitors can search by solution type, end product, process style, etc. We also created dynamic sliders to highlight resources in varying locations around the site, with tags enabling the content to appear in more than one place. It’s all about making information accessible.

Looking Forward: Templates

Heat and Control is always coming up with new ways to do things, so they need an easy way to add new content. The Clear Digital team created templates for the various types of webpages. Now the Heat and Control team can simply select a template and drop new content into the CMS to publish new pages or edit existing pages. As they continue to advance their industry, their website can keep up.

Mapping it Out

One of the biggest challenges with this project was figuring out the best way to organize all content. This called for an incredibly smart information architecture, which enables a simple and intuitive UX, despite a complexity of content. The sitemap lays out pages in parent/child relationships, with back-end hierarchy and tagging linking the same content to various locations and models. Users can easily find what they need, and Heat and Control only has to create content once, even if it appears on multiple pages.

Bringing it to Life

To help the Heat and Control team visualize the new design and structure, Clear Digital created wireframes for every page. This also ensured continuity across the site for a consistent UX from any angle.
